Angola Seeks Strategic Partnerships with Greek Investors

Angola’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), Sianga Abílio, has expressed the country’s interest in attracting Greek investors to its market.

Speaking during the opening session of the UN-Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya this month Ambassador Abílio revealed to Greece’s Ambassador to the UN Maria Theofili, that Angola will need investment in various sectors to promote economic diversification in the southern African country.

Ambassador Abílio stressed the pressing need for capital infusion and expertise across multiple industries in Angola while highlighting the importance of bilateral economic cooperation. Angola views Greece as an important strategic partner in its sustainable development goals and sees bilateral cooperation as a means to promote peace and prosperity in Africa.

He further expressed Angola’s support for Greece’s candidacy for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term in order to support mediation efforts and peace talks in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the broader Great Lakes Region.

Meanwhile, Angola extended its mandate as a member of the Executive Council of the UN-Habitat for a further two years. Since Angola’s ascension to the Council in 2019, the southern African country has participated in working sessions to define annual plans and budgets for the program in addition to monitoring the implementation of its tasks and decisions.

Dedicated towards promoting social, environmental, and sustainable development, the Angolan delegation to the UN-Habitat Assembly led by Ambassador Abílio, served to revitalize its cooperation with the program to support housing and urban programs in Angola.
